Ultrasound: A Natural, Green Extraction Method
At Nutrient Sense, we care about preserving the integrity of the original plant compounds, so we have chosen ultrasonic-assisted extraction (UAE) for our botanical ingredients.
How it Works
Basically, ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) relies on ultrasonic waves to extract herbal compounds without the use of harsh chemicals or heat. Non-thermal ultrasound extraction creates an environment that breaks through cellular walls using nothing more than high-intensity sound waves. As the cell walls break down, the inner materials are released directly into the carrier base, creating a potent emulsion.
Ultrasound does not rely upon heat for extraction, which is beneficial as many of the botanical compounds (such as terpenes and several cannabinoids) are temperature sensitive. The ultrasonic extraction method is ideal as it can work with a variety of harmless carrier solvents. Here at Nutrient Sense, we chose to use organic hemp seed oil for our extraction carrier as it is unrefined, easily absorbed, and has a 3:1 fatty acid ratio that is beneficial for health.
The Benefits of Raw Extraction
Ultrasound extraction is a safe and environmentally-friendly method that both simplifies conventional procedures and lessens extraction time. Through this method, very little of our products' botanical compounds are diminished. Known as the future of “green” botanical processing, ultrasonic extraction is found to create whole-spectrum extracts that are as close as possible to the original plant. UAE is known to preserve CBD in its natural state known as Cannabidiolic acid (CBDA). As the power-packed precursor to CBD, CBDA is being touted as the next frontier in cannabinoid-based products.
The Takeaway
As herbal extraction methods evolve, sonication is leading the way for a cleaner, healthier processing. Here at Nutrient Sense, we know we couldn’t settle for anything less.
